Description

June 17th 2024 is the cut-off date for decommissioning the Linux CentOS computing platform at MODAPS and Land SIPS. We would like to remind our users of the following resulting changes on that date:

  1. We will terminate the forward production of most SNPP VIIRS Collection-1 (C1, Archive-Set 5000) land products from LandSIPS, on June 17, 2024.
  2. The only exceptions are C1 BRDF/Albedo, DNB BRDF, and Black Marble products, whose forward processing will resume by early July and continue until the Collection-2 (C2) reprocessing is fully complete for these products over the SNPP historical mission period. During this gap in production of the C1 BRDF/Albedo, DNB BRDF, and Black Marble products, users are encouraged to switch to their C2 equivalent, which are now available from the leading edge.
  3. For all other land products, users are strongly encouraged to switch to C2 Collections for SNPP and J1, which have better radiometric calibration and are more consistent with MODIS Aqua, for long-term climate studies. Refer to the following link for a brief description of the v2.0 science changes and updates in the land products.
  4. The production of the C1 VNP14IMG 375m Active Fire product has already been discontinued since June 1, 2024 and their C2 equivalent should be available from LP-DAAC and LAADS DAAC.
  5. We also plan to terminate the six originally produced C1 SNPP VIIRS Level-1 Interface Data Processing Segment (IDPS) products whose shortnames include NPP_VIAES_L1, NPP_VMAES_L1, NPP_VDNES_L1, NPP_IMFTS_L1, NPP_MOFTS_L1, and NPP_DNFTS_L1.
