Description |
MODAPS was made aware of the decommissioning of the NOAA weekly averaged Reynold Optimum Interpolation SST (REYNSST) on 12/15/2022. The notice of this decommissioning reached us much later than the original date of this announcement by NOAA, due to an inadvertent lapse in communication from GES DISC, who is the provider of this data to MODAPS. MODAPS has last received this data for the week of 11/27/2022. This ancillary data is used at MODAPS for the production of key atmospheric parameters like cloud mask (MxD35_L2) and cloud top properties (MxD06). While MODAPS and the MODIS Atmosphere teams are exploring different options to find a suitable replacement for this SST, MODAPS will be using the last available REYNOLD SST from 11/27/2022 as an interim measure to continue the processing in the forward production stream and NRT. Once MODAPS processing switches to an alternate SST, this note will be updated and the period that had to rely on the older REYNSST from 11/27/2022 will be reprocessed, using the alternate SST. |
