Updated 2024-06-05T15:00:00Z -- The Suomi-NPP (S-NPP) GPS recovery was successfully carried out on June 3, following which, Land SIPS geolocation team has confirmed the restoration of the geolocation accuracy, starting 06/04 00:00z. Hence, Land SIPS will resume production of all SNPP VIIRS Land NRT data products from MODAPS LANCE, starting June 5. ----------------- An anomaly with the Suomi-NPP GPS, which started at approximately 22:23:14z on May 25, 2024, is causing significant degradation in SNPP VIIRS data's geolocation performance. Therefore, since late May 25, 2024, the geolocation errors have started to gradually degrade and have been found to exceed 1 km, as seen on May 26 and 27, 2024. Given this degradation, all production of SNPP VIIRS Level-2 and higher-level data products are being suspended until further notice. Users are advised not to use any SNPP VIIRS data products that have been produced and are being distributed since May 25, 2024, until further notice. |
