Jeffrey S. Reid, Ph.D.
Research Meteorologist
US Naval Research Laboratory
Marine Meteorology Division, Monterey, CA

Research Interests

  • Aerosol science
  • Applied meteorology
  • Air Quality
  • Error analysis

Dr. Reid works in the field of aerosol observability, applied meteorology, and informatics with an emphasis on regional aerosol environments and boundary layer properties. Dr. Reid has a particular focus on the development of in-situ and remote sensing realistic error characteristics and their propagation into both numerical and conceptual models. His work improves electro-optical systems and retrieval algorithms for environmental monitoring.

A veteran of numerous field campaigns, Dr. Reid is currently the Mission Scientist for the Clouds, Aerosol, Monsoon Processes-Philippines (CAMP2Ex), a NASA airborne mission that seeks to understand the SE Asian aerosol environment and its potential impacts on the Earth System. Dr. Reid also devotes time to international collaboration efforts (particularly in Southeast Asia) and was a founding organizer of the International Cooperative for Aerosol Prediction (ICAP) and the US Interagency Measurements of Aerosol and Clouds and their Interactions for Earth System Models (MACIE).
