Research Interests

  • Atmospheric composition
  • Climate change
  • Aerosols and fires

Dr. Jun Wang's research lies at the intersection of atmospheric composition and climate change, investigating the impacts of aerosols and fires on air quality, weather, and climate. His specialty includes remote sensing of aerosols and fires, and integration of satellite data with regional and global chemistry transport models. He has authored 205 research articles (H-index 61), co-edited two books, served as a science team member for 10 satellite missions (including inaugural team member for TEMPO and MAIA) and the NASA's senior review panel for Earth science (three times). He conducted his Ph.D. work in atmospheric sciences in the University of Alabama-Huntsville in 2005 under the support of NASA's Earth system science graduate fellowship and his postdoctoral work in Harvard University with the support of NOAA Climate and Global Change postdoctoral fellowship in 2005-2007. He was a recipient of NASA's New Investigator Program award in 2009 and AGU's Atmospheric Science ASCENT Award in 2022. More about his research team can be found at: http://arroma.uiowa.edu
