Dr. Lazaros Oreopoulos has 25+ years of experience conducting research on the modeling and remote sensing of clouds, their impact on Earth’s Radiation Budget, aerosol-cloud interactions, and many aspects of atmospheric radiative transfer for climatic applications. He is currently a member of the CloudSat and Cloud-Aerosol Lidar and Infrared Pathfinder (Cloudsat-CALIPSO) and Moderate Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) Science Teams and of the International Radiation Commission. He has previously been a member of the Precipitation Measurement Missions, Atmospheric Infrared Sounder (AIRS) and Landsat Science Teams and has served on the American Meteorological Society (AMS) Atmospheric Radiation Committee and the Global Energy and Water Exchanges (GEWEX) Radiation Panel. He received the NASA Exceptional Scientific Achievement Medal in 2018 and the GSFC Robert H. Goddard Exceptional Achievement Award for Science in 2019. His administrative experience includes leading GSFC’s Climate and Radiation Laboratory (about 80 staff members including 13 civil servants whom he supervises) since early 2013 and serving as Deputy Project Scientist of the Aqua Mission since early 2010.
